Obituary for George Gleed Franks Jr.

George Gleed Franks Jr., 75, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013. He was born in Dillon on April 28, 1938, to George Gleed and Kathryn (Kajin) Franks.

George grew up in Lima, graduating from Lima High School. He honorably served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959. He worked on construction crews on his return to Lima, including the Clark Canyon Dam.

He married Bonnie J. Miller of Garrison on Dec. 23, 1960. In 1963, George and Bonnie moved to Missoula, where they raised three children.

George worked for 39 years for Stone Container. He was well-known for his work there and received numerous safety awards. It was well known that George could fix anything.

George was a founding alumni member of the T&C Club (Town & Country) in Missoula, where he enjoyed the company.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Kate Franks; sister, Marlene Krause; and nephew, Kurt Krause.

He is survived by Bonnie Franks; his son, Gregg Franks; his daughters, Kathryn L. (Franks) Campbell and Jennifer (Franks) Brush; his grandchildren, Andy Franks, John, Scott and Madison Campbell, and Ethan and Adam Brush; and his nephew, Kade Krause.

George loved his country and the state called Montana.

He was a generous, lifelong supporter of the National Rifle Association, Montana Historical Society, local veterans organizations and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.

There are no services planned at this time for George.

Arrangements are under the direction of Cremation and Burial Society of the Rockies.
