George Robert “Bob” Boyce, 81, of Florence, passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at The Village Senior Residence of heart failure.
He was born on April 6, 1935 in Del Norte, Colorado, to Kelly and Hazel Boyce. He grew up on a potato farm in the San Luis Valley of Colorado. It was there that he learned to work hard and gained a great work ethic. In high school he participated in many clubs and activities. Football was his passion, but he also enjoyed wresting and playing the clarinet. He developed a deep rooted and lifelong love of cross country and downhill skiing at the nearby Wolf Creek Ski Area. He then went on to graduate from Colorado State University with a degree in Agricultural Engineering.
On July 14, 1962, he married Lola Mae King in Denver, Colorado. His job as a Civil Engineer with the government took his little family from Colorado, Idaho, Alaska, Idaho again and then Alaska one more time; finally moving to Florence, Montana for his retirement.
He joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints during college and remained a faithful member for the rest of his life. He was always involved in service projects and genealogy was a particular passion.
He was certain that some of the best years of his life were those when he was called Grandpa. He spent as much time as possible finding a myriad of ways to be a part of their lives.
Survivors include his wife, Lola, of Florence; a daughter, Lisa (Boyce) Bishop, of Stevensville; and a son; Hans F. Boyce, of Boise, Idaho. There are also seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
He was buried on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 in the Carlton Cemetery in Florence, Montana. Arrangements were under the care of Garden City Funeral Home.
