Obituary for Georgana L. "Geo" Egeland

Georgana L. "Geo" Egeland, 82, of Missoula, passed away Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013, at her home of natural causes.

She was born Jan. 10, 1931, in Grand Rapids, Minn., to George and Beryl Allison. She grew up there, attending grade school through high school. In the fall of 1948, Georgana won a beauty contest and was crowned Miss Grand Rapids.

On Aug. 27, 1949, she married Roy M. Egeland at the First Lutheran Church in Fairbanks, Alaska. The couple lived there until Aug. 3, 1955, when they moved to Missoula. Georgana was Roy's accountant along with several other businesses in Missoula.

Georgana joined the Immanuel Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star on March 13, 1965. She was Worthy Matron in 1972-73, 2008-09, 2009-10, and Montana Grand Chaplain in 2005-06. She joined the Rose Croix Shrine of the Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem on May 19, 1969, and was Worthy High Priestess many, many times. She was also a member of the Baghdad Order of the Daughters of the Nile and was involved in the Scottish Rite.

Georgana enjoyed her garden in the backyard and flowers around the house. We all picked apples and bing cherries every year. Georgana was famous for her bowling and cooking.

Georgana was preceded in death by her husband, Roy M. Egeland; and daughter, Christine M. Parnell.

She is survived by family members, Roy (Trish), Harry (Pauline), Dan, Laura, Susan, Jenny and Martel Eegeland; John, Tom and Edie Allison; Michael, Jennifer, Erin and Jamie Parnell; and Cameron, Amanda, Ryah, Claire and many other relations.

We would like to thank Marcy and Makenzie of Rocky Mountain Hospice and Susan and Trish for taking such good care of Mom through her illness.

Donations may be made to Rocky Mountain Hospice.

Visitation will be held at Garden City Funeral Home on Wednesday, Oct. 9, from 3 to 6 p.m. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church and will be announced
