Garry L. Witty

February 7, 1950 — December 29, 2024

Missoula

Garry Lynn Witty passed away peacefully at home in Missoula, Montana, on December 29, 2024, surrounded by his wife, Donna, and others who dearly loved him. Garry was born to Roy and Edna Witty on February 7, 1950, in Checotah, Oklahoma.

Garry and his family moved to Tehachapi, California, when he was five years old, where he attended school. He was a star athlete and an honor graduate and was admitted to the California State Polytechnic College at San Luis Obispo with Honors at Entrance. An honor given to those who rank in the top five percent of the incoming freshman class. He earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting and passed the Certified Public Accountant Exam. He remained as a CPA Tax Accountant for the past fifty years—and retired this past year.

Garry was married to Kathy Witty for forty years before her death. He was a loving and generous father to Lindsay Rockefeller and Jessica Nagel and a grandfather to Matthew Nagel, Mia Rockefeller, Cody Rockefeller, and Logan Rockefeller.

Later in life, Garry married Donna Witty, moved to Missoula, Montana, and embraced her family and the Montana Grizzlies as his own. He formed close bonds with Rebecca Tatafu and Meghan Sutton and their children, Bailee Varady, Austin Varady, Brynn Varady, and Scarlett Hodges.

Garry’s sister, Laura Brooks, resides in Muskogee, OK, and their brother, Dale Witty, passed shortly after his parents’ deaths.

Garry was an avid traveler and distinguished member of the Rotary Club. His life was filled with adventure and service. His deep faith guided him as an active member of his church communities in California and Montana. At Elevate Church in Montana, he became a familiar and friendly presence who touched lives through his generosity and selflessness.

Garry will be remembered as a kind-hearted man who freely gave of himself to others. His legacy of kindness and service will live on in the many lives he impacted. His family, friends, and the community he called home will deeply miss him.
