Garry Baier

July 28, 1942 — February 27, 2025

Garry Lee Baier, 82, of Missoula, passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2025 at St. Patrick Hospital of cancer and was surrounded by his family.

Garry was born on July 28, 1942 in Seattle, Washington to Harry and Helen Baier. Harry and Helen divorced a short time later. Harry then married Ruth Rummell. Garry spent many of his younger years helping his dad transport cattle up and down many Montana and North Dakota highways. Garry grew up in Lolo Creek and attended Lolo Creek schoolhouse, the historic Woodman School.

Garry enlisted in the Montana Army National Guard in 1961. Garry was immensely proud of his service to his country.

On July 23, 1966, Garry married Jo Ann Therriault. Garry was a loving and devoted husband for 58 wonderful years.

Garry retired from the Montana Power Company after 46 years of service. Garry’s impressive work ethic provided an exceptional life for his wife and children. Garry’s family was his pride and joy.

Garry’s retirement opened a wonderful opportunity for him and Jo Ann to have a winter home in Arizona. Garry spent many years of his much-deserved retirement riding his 4-wheeler and enjoying the warm desert air. Garry loved telling everyone that he was a snowbird. Garry’s retirement also gave him the opportunity to watch his grandson Logan (his “little buddy”) play baseball, which included many travel adventures. Garry always focused on what was right in front of him so to be present in the moment and embrace today.

Survivors include his wife, Jo Ann; son Rodney (Connie); daughter LeeAnn (Lonnie); grandson Logan; and granddaughter Lindsey and family.

Garry was preceded in death by his father, mother, stepmother, and sister.

A celebration of life will be held in his honor at the Western Montana State Veterans Cemetery later this summer.

In lieu of flowers, he would have loved donations made to Wounded Warriors, Disabled Veterans National Foundation, Tunnel to Towers or Local VFW.
