Gail W. Allen, 87, passed away on Monday, Nov. 11, 2013, on Veterans Day. He was born on April 6, 1926, in Stevensville to Glenn Allen and Margaret Croughan Allen. He attended school in Victor and Stevensville.
In February of 1944, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He attended boot camp at Farragut, Idaho. After boot camp, he went to Norman, Okla., and was trained as an Aviation Machinist Mate. After more training, he was assigned to a B-24 patrol squadron in the Pacific. The group flew patrols in the area of Kwajalein Marshall Islands, Mariana Islands, Tinian, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. He served his country for two terms and in 1952 he hitchhiked from Seattle to Stevensville.
On Sept. 20, 1953, he married Dayle Blair in Hamilton. They were married for 60 years. Gail worked at Westmont Tractor in Missoula at this time, where residence was made. He then went to work in 1961 at Hoerner-Waldorf and worked there until 1994 when he retired.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife Dayle; son Steve Allen and daughter Cindy Allen.
Viewing will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 22, at the First Baptist Church, 308 W. Pine St., where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Following the service, a reception will be held in the Fellowship Room, served by the ladies of the First Baptist Church. A graveside service with military honors will follow the luncheon at the Victor Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church or Animeals.
