On October 25, 2014 with family by his side our dear father, husband, grandpa, great grandpa and friend, received a promotion to his heavenly home. He was the oldest of seventeen children born to German immigrant, Philipp Weber and Friedaricka Luithle Weber in Zap, North Dakota.
He left school at sixteen to work laying railroad ties with his father, helping to support the family. Fred spent time in the Navy during World War II on a submarine chaser in the Pacific. After returning home from active duty he married his sweetheart, "Queen" Esther in 1948.
Fred worked for Northern Pacific and Burlington Northern Railroads, ending up in Missoula in 1966 as the signal supervisor for the western region of Montana. He retired after forty years, then transported motor homes and cars for local dealerships for twenty years. Fred was very active, walking or hiking the "M" daily.
Fred loved his family and spending time with his grandchildren. A special time was a yearly family reunion on Memorial Day weekend at the Smith ranch near Livingston with ninety or more family members in attendance. Fred loved people and was an active member of Christian Life Center since 1966. He could always be found greeting friends, new and old with a big smile.
He is preceded in death by his brothers, Ray, Rueben and Calvin, and his sisters, Clara, Leah, Esther and three infants. He is also preceded in death by beloved grandson Bradley Palmer and great grandson Levi Velin. He is survived by his loving wife Esther and four children: Levonne Campbell (Kirby), Connie Palmer (Mike), Donna Palmer (Rex) and Ken Weber (Kathy). He is also survived by his grandchildren, great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. His surviving siblings are Cecil Weber (Donna), Orpah Tudor (Fred), Ruth Yoder (Delmer), Dinah Woods (Rex), Delilah Smith (Todd), Della Weber, and Sharon Burns (Randy).
Visitation will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens of Missoula on Wednesday, October 29th from 4:00-7:00 pm. A private family burial will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens. A celebration of Fred's life will be held Thursday, October 30th at 2:00 pm at Christian Life Center in Missoula with a reception to follow. Memorials can be given to the Gideon's International or to Christian Life Center of Missoula.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at The Springs and Hospice of Missoula for their excellent and loving care.
When Fred's Grandchildren told him they loved him he would always say "I love you more." We love you, Grandpa. Condolences for the family may be left at www.missoulafuneralhomes.com
