Pat passed peacefully at home in his sleep on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2015, at the age of 85. He was born July 19, 1930, in Culbertson, to Bill and Ann Marcinkowski. Pat and his family moved to Poplar in 1939 where his father opened and operated a family bakery.
Pat graduated from Poplar High School in 1948. He immediately joined and served in the United States Navy. Although Pat served on different ships, he served as a radioman on the submarine USS Segundo during the Korean War. After five years of active duty, Pat joined the Naval Reserves.
In 1956, Pat married Lois Marie Seiler and they started their family in eastern Montana. In 1965 the Marcinkowskis moved to Missoula where they have lived for 50 years. Pat and Lois resided for 46 years in their home on University Avenue where they raised eight children. Laughter, joy and love were common place in Pat and Lois' home. Pat traveled extensively, but loved and enjoyed everything about Montana, especially hiking, camping and canoeing. His greatest joy was spending time with and being surrounded by his family. Pat was known for his deep laugh, mischievous smile, quick wit and willingness to help others. Pat was a devout Catholic and very active in his church his entire life. In addition to his faith and family, he retired from Mountain Bell after 31 years and continued to serve his community with his involvement in the Telephone Pioneers for over 20 years, Knights of Columbus and American Legion.
Most recently Pat and Lois have resided at the Village Senior Residence.
Preceding Pat in death are his oldest daughter Patti and his parents, Bill and Ann. Pat is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lois; his sister Margie Gross (Richard) of Covina, California; son-in-law George Furniss of Darby; son Mark (Barbara) of Orlando, Florida; daughter Kathy (Jerry) of The Woodlands, Texas; daughter Paula (Paul) of Missoula; daughter Margo (Juan) of West Covina, California; daughter Francie (Jeremy) of Butte; son Mike (Amy) of Missoula; daughter Laura (Scott) of Highland, California; 15 grandchildren, their five spouses and five great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Christ the King Parish, 1400 Gerald Ave., Missoula, MT 59801.
A Rosary vigil is being held at Christ the King Church at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30. Services are at Christ the King Church on Saturday, Oct. 31, at 11 a.m. In addition, the inurnment will take place on Monday, Nov. 2, at 9 a.m. at Western Montana State Veterans Cemetery.
