Florence Armitage "Tage" Adams Showell died Saturday, May 17, 2014, in Missoula. Born June 1, 1925, in Billings, she was a fifth generation Montanan, the daughter of public school teacher Florence Armitage Adams and legendary UM athlete and track coach Harry F. Adams.
Tage began playing piano at a young age, was a champion youth tennis player, and graduated from Missoula County High School. She earned a bachelor's degree in music from the University of Minnesota, a master's degree in music from the University of Montana, and became a respected and longtime piano teacher in Missoula. In addition to Missoula, she lived in Illinois, New Jersey, New York City and in Germany, where she studied piano with Walter Gieseking.
She is survived by sisters, Sue Adams Butler (David, deceased) of Missoula and Judy Adams Schaffer (John) of Seattle; son Jeffrey Adams Showell (Denise) of Bowling Green, Ohio; nieces, Leigh Charles (Matt), Janet Nelson (Dave) and Julie Grimes (Gary); nephew Scott Cortner; grandchildren, David Showell (Jennifer), Doug Showell (Lydia) and Whitney Showell; and great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Joseph, Reece, Christopher and Beckham.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, June 16 at the Garden City Funeral Home at 1705 W. Broadway.
