Obituary for Florence Jeanette 'Flossy Gilfillan

MISSOULA – Florence Jeanette "Flossy" Gilfillan, a native Missoulian, passed from this life into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, April 16, 2013, of natural causes. She was 93. She resided at the Village Health Care Center.

She was born March 6, 1920, to Swedish immigrants, Swan and Helen (Lindstrom) Brunson. Flossy attended Missoula grade schools and graduated from Missoula County High School in 1938.

She had several jobs in Missoula, including dispatcher for the Yellow Cab Co., nurse aide at the Northern Pacific Hospital, and, later, after graduating from Missoula Vo-Tech, she was licensed practical nurse for Missoula General Hospital.

She was a lifetime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and a member of the Moose and Elks Clubs, Missoula Senior Center and the DAV Auxiliary.

For the past 13 years, Flossy was a resident at the Missoula Manor Retirement Home where she had many friends and enjoyed her pinochle nights three times a week.

She enjoyed bowling, bingo and a variety of other word games. She was a master at the daily crossword and cryptograms in the paper.

Flossy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, C.E. "Spike" Gilfillan; all her siblings, including sister and dearest friend Violet Gray and brothers, Arnold, Cliff, Harry and Eddie; her grandson, Todd Logan; and great-grandson, Buster Carlin.

She is survived by her daughter, Leilani Jo Rusk; sons, Monte Logan and Lanny Logan (Angela); seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Bob Gray; sister-in-law, Geri Rannberg; very dear nieces and nephews; and loving special friends.

Flossy had a sharp mind and a terrific wit, enjoying life, laughter, family gatherings and especially telling her latest joke, or an old one that still tickled her funny bone.

"Tak sa mika, Lord," for the many ways she blessed our lives and made them better for having shared them with her. She will be missed.

Family thanks to the staff and management of the Village Health Care Center for the care and comfort she received, and to the Missoula Manor staff and residents for their many kindnesses, and to her longtime friends for their visits and support.

Services to celebrate Flossy's life will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 830 South Ave. W. at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 20. Reception lunch will follow in the church Fellowship Hall.

Memorial may be designated to the Immanuel Lutheran Church Endowment Fund.
