Obituary for Fay Valentine Robertson

Fay Valentine Robertson, 86, passed away Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, at St. Patrick Hospital surrounded by her family. Fay was born on Valentine's Day, Feb. 14, 1927, to Elmer J. and Lucille Desonia Chaffee in Dooley. She graduated from Outlook High School in 1945 and finished Modern Business College in Missoula in 1947.

Fay met Gordon Francis Robertson Jr. at a cafe in Outlook and they wed on June 11, 1948, in Missoula at St. Anthony Parish. It was a friendship that turned into marriage with the help of her brother Jim.

Fay worked at the Plentywood Bakery, Red Owl Store and the Sheridan County Treasurer's Office. After she moved to Missoula, she worked at Western Montana Bank and Missoula Sheet Metal. She retired from the Coca-Cola Co. in 1989.

Mom was a long-standing parishioner of St. Anthony Parish, where she served on the Altar Society and also helped with the Girl Scouts.

Fay kept busy with seven children and her work, but always found time to play in the pinochle group with her close friends. She was always involved with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family gatherings were always very special to Fay. Christmas and, of course, Valentine's Day were her favorite holidays.

Mom lost the love of her life in December 2006 after 58 years of marriage.

Fay was preceded in death by the following family members, who await her at the gates of heaven, husband, Gordon F. Robertson Jr.; parents, Elmer and Lucille Chaffee; brother, Lt. James L. Chaffee; grandsons, James A. Neumayer Jr., Sean Michael Schoen, Trever Scott Anderson and Gordon James Robertson Jr.; granddaughter, Jessica Lynn Anderson; and great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn May Neumayer.

Survivors include sister, Jeanette Minott of Florida; her seven children and their spouses, children and grandchildren, Stephen (Chom) Robertson, Roberta (Terry) Schoen, Ronda (Jim) Dover, Gordon J. Robertson, Jan (Kyle) Anderson, Rita (Brian) Hagler and Patti (Brant) Boylan. She was very proud of her children and their families and our long-standing family joke was that we all lived in Missoula, but now and then one of us lived the farthest from home – Ronda in Florence, Jan in California, Bobby in Bonner and Patti in Turah.

Pallbearers are Stephen J. Robertson, Gordy Robertson, Jim Dover, Terry Schoen, Kyle Anderson, Brian Hagler and Brant Boylan. Honorary pallbearers are Kyle Anderson Jr., Cory and Joshua Hagler

A vigil/rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, at Garden City Funeral Home. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 25, at St. Anthony Catholic Parish with a reception to follow. Burial of the urn will take place at the St. Mary Cemetery Annex.

The family suggests memorials can be made to St. Anthony Parish, 217 Tremont St., Missoula, MT 59801
