Fadwa Haddad, 91, a long-time resident of Missoula passed away in comfort, surrounded by loving care at her home among family and friends, on Thursday, Feb. 4, 2016, from natural causes. She was born in Jordan on Aug. 20, 1924, and grew up in Sault and Amman, the eldest of five children. She graduated from seventh grade, the highest level of education available to girls in 1930s Jordan. Due to the early death of her father, she helped her mother raise her four younger brothers and finish building their family home. She was the consummate family person and homemaker. She became an accomplished seamstress in her teens and quickly learned the arts of embroidery, knitting and crocheting among a host of other crafts. She spent considerable energy and time throughout her life making beautiful clothing and gifting them to her family and friends.
Fadwa married Fouad Haddad in 1947 and had two sons, Nabil and Emile. She moved with her husband to Kuwait in 1956 where they resided for the next 25 years. In her forties and fifties, she was determined to learn many new professional skills that allowed her to develop a successful career in banking in Kuwait. Fadwa retired and moved to Missoula in 1981. During her 35-year residency in Missoula Fadwa became deeply involved in her church, the Holy Spirit Parish, where she was known for her creative craft-making and Middle Eastern cooking. She loved to tend her vegetable and herb garden; you could always catch her in the early morning hours of summer moving between her small greenhouse and her raised beds, watering and caring for her plants. She loved to cook for others; her love for cooking led her to write a Middle Eastern cookbook whose proceeds were donated to her church. Fadwa also belonged to the Eastern Star where she was involved over the years in supporting a variety of charitable functions.
Fadwa always had a generous heart, a heart that embraced her immediate and large extended family. She never failed to support, nurture and often worry about her children, grandchildren, brothers and all her nephews and nieces no matter where they resided around the globe. She and the family are grateful for the wonderful care and support she received from her doctors and nurses, Hestia In-Home Support and Partners In-Home Care Hospice.
She is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Fouad Haddad; her two sons, Nabil and Emile; daughters-in-law, Becky and Terryll; grandchildren Rami and Ian and extended family members in Jordan, San Francisco, Virginia, New Jersey and Missouri.
A funeral service, followed by a reception, celebrating Fadwa's life will be held on Friday, Feb. 12, at 11 a.m. at the Holy Spirit Parish, 130 S. Sixth Ave. E., Missoula MT 59801.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Fadwa's name to The Parenting Place, 1644 S. Eighth St. W, Missoula, MT 59801, (406)-240-4042, parentingplace.net/ or any other children's charity of your choice.
