F. JoAnn Privett Means Martin, 81, of Lolo, went peacefully to the Lord in her home Thursday, June 26, 2014, of natural causes.
JoAnn was born at Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital in Hamilton on March 19, 1933, to Vernal and Gordon Privett. She spent her childhood in Ravalli and Missoula counties with her sister Bonnie Privett Savage and brother Don Privett. Vernal and Gordon divorced when JoAnn was young and Vernal remarried Ellis Rhoades. Gordon married Sally and JoAnn's family extended to include two half sisters, Toni Privett Fisher and Peggy Ann Jones, and half brother Earl Floyd "Skip" Privett. She graduated from Missoula County High school in 1951.
In 1951 she married Norman E. "Bunny" Means Jr. The couple lived in Missoula and had four boys, David, Daniel, Timothy and Joseph. They raised David, Daniel and Joseph together in Missoula until Bunny's death in 1986. JoAnn worked at the Rialto and Wilma theaters, then at the Western Montana Clinic in records until her retirement.
The Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints was an integral and influential part of JoAnn's life. She was a primary school teacher, belonged to the Relief Society and worked in geneaology and at the cannery. She met Edward J. Martin through the church and they were married May 7, 1997.
JoAnn enjoyed playing the piano, cooking, canning and gardening. She continued to learn piano throughout her adult life, encouraging and passing on her love for piano to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. JoAnn had a beautiful singing voice and sang in the church choir; however, she was shy when it came to solos.
JoAnn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt as well as a caring friend and church member.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents Gordon and Vernal; sisters Darlene Privett and Peggy Jones; first husband Norman E. "Bunny" Means Jr.; and son Timothy Norman Means. Survivors include her husband Edward J. Martin; her three sons, David, Daniel and Joseph Means; her siblings, Don, Bonnie, Skip and Toni; along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
