Evelyn E. Roberts

Evelyn E. Roberts, 94, passed away October 14, 2015. She was a South Dakota ranching girl at heart, born in Conde, February 12, 1921.
Her adoring parents were Charles and Gladys Rathbun. Evelyn was the eldest of their four children. Her love for her sisters was immense.

She had treasured memories of spending winters in Pomona, California with family. Evelyn graduated from high school in Groton, South Dakota, in 1939.

She married Bob Roberts on April 24, 1944, in Portland, Oregon. Evelyn grew to be an Oregonian after living there for many decades. She worked for the State of Oregon, in the Agriculture Dept. of Brand Registration for many years.

She loved her children with all her heart—Barbara Roberts, born in 1948, and Martin Roberts, born in 1952. Evelyn supported her children in their education, 4-H, their hobbies and sports. They were her pride and joy.

Evelyn was also very proud to be a grandmother to Jessie and Layne Roberts. Later in life she became a loving mother-in-law to Betsy Robel, and grandmother to her young son, Brandon Gomez. Her grandchildrens' humor and antics delighted her. She equally loved to tease them and surprise them with funny Christmas gifts.

Evelyn was generous with her spirit and her heart. She treasured her trip to Alaska with her daughter Barbara. She loved to hunt and travel with her husband Bob. She moved to Montana, after her daughter Barbara died in 2009. She lived independently just down one mile down the road from Marty and Betsy, until her death. Together, they would enjoy dinners on the deck, going for rides around western Montana, take trips back to Oregon, and try out new restaurants for breakfast and dinners.

Evelyn was gentle, loving, good natured, and independent little spirit. She really loved animals, especially miniature Pinschers. She loved studying the weather, ranching life, and was a voracious reader.
Evelyn was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Redmond Chapter.

Evelyn was preceded in death by both parents, husband - Bob Roberts, sister - Unadell Stevenson, nephew - Roger Hauschildt, and daughter - Barbara Roberts. She is survived by her sister - Connie Hauschildt, brother- Douglas Rathbun, son - Marty Roberts (Betsy Robel), grandchildren Jessie, Layne, Brandon, and extended family.

There will be a private family graveside service, in Bend, Oregon, at Deschutes Memorial Gardens, on October 17, 2015. Arrangements are under the care of Garden City Funeral Home. Condolences and memories may be left for the family at www.missoulafuneralhomes.com
