Our beloved mother, wife, grandmother and great-grandmother Evelyn Irene Pocan, 85, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, Oct. 25, 2015, at Village Health Care Center.
Evelyn was born Aug. 18, 1930, in Green Bay, Wisconsin, to Everett and Minnie Raymond. Evelyn married John D. Pocan on Jan. 27, 1951. They were married for 48 wonderful years and he was the love of her life. They had four children, Cindy, Lila, Sheri and Greg, who have great memories of traveling together. They moved from Wisconsin to Colorado, then Arizona and eventually settled in Missoula.
Evelyn's passion was caring for children, country music, Green Bay Packers, baking cookies and fudge at Christmas. Her favorite TV shows included "Andy Griffith Show" and "The Waltons." Loretta Lynn was her all-time favorite singer and she felt that Loretta was like a sister to her. She ran her own day care business in the home for several years.
During 2000 to 2010, Head Start called her "Grandma Evelyn" in the Robin Room. She was awarded Montana Foster Grandparent of the Year through Missoula Aging Services. Her greatest joy was her family and her church. She was baptized at 79 as a Seventh-day Adventist. She loved going to Ruby's Café with Senior Companion, John, and hiking with Sheri and Cindy.
Evelyn is preceded by her husband John; daughter Lila on March 8, 1989; sister Ethel; brother Don Raymond; grandchildren, Kristina Erickson and Ryan Pocan.
Evelyn is survived by three children, Cindy Pocan, Sheri Stewart (Marshall), Greg Pocan (Tammy); two brothers, Howard Raymond and Eddie Raymond (Marion); grandsons, AJ Pocan, Michael Pocan and Paul Erickson; granddaughter Stephanie Bowman; and also survived by 12 great-grandchildren.
