Evelyn Gasvoda

- Evelyn Gasvoda went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 30, 2013.

Evelyn was born in Alexandria, La., on May 20, 1928, to Joseph and Laura Verzwyvelt, the sixth of 10 children.

She married Leonard Krout in 1947 in Missoula. After Leonard passed away in 1992, Evelyn met Joseph Gasvoda. They were married in 1996 and have enjoyed a long and happy retirement filled with church activities, gardening, playing cards and travelling.

Evelyn excelled at bookkeeping, and worked at Missoula Concrete Company for a number of years and later at a local credit union. She volunteered at the Pregnancy Support Center in Missoula, counseling young mothers, doing laundry, doing home visitations with mothers and babies. She and Joe were active members of St. Anthony Catholic Church, participating in several ministries, such as ushering, counting collections, reading at Mass, lighting candles and assisting at Eucharist.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers and four sisters; her former husband, Leonard Krout; her granddaughter, Leisa Brunken and her son-in-law, George Lichty.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph Gasvoda; her sister, Lola Ducote and her brothers, Rudy and Elster Verzwyvelt; four children, Karen Krout (and Gilbert Wolf), Patricia (and Norm) Brunken, Vicki Lichty and Paul (and Crystal) Krout; two grandchildren, Laurie Anderson and Darin Lichty, and three great-grandchildren, Tyler and Dylan Anderson and Montana Lynn Lichty.

Evelyn will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Many thanks to all her caretakers, doctors and nurses.

A prayer vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 4 at St. Anthony Church. The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, also at St. Anthony Church. The family requests that donations in memory of Evelyn be made to the charity of one's choice.

Garden City Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
