MISSOULA, Mont. —Elmer Lawrence Ireland, 84 of Missoula, passed away on Friday, August 26, 2022 at St. Patrick's Hospital of natural causes.
He was born November 14, 1938, in Clearfield, PA to Charles and Angie Ireland. As a young man he lived with his family on the family farm in Clearfield. When Elmer was yet a boy, the family moved to Lorain, OH where Elmer would attended school in Amherst earning his diploma from Marion L. Steele HS. On February 27, 1960 Elmer married Shirley Ann Harrier of Clearfield, PA. At his death, the couple had been together for 63 wonderful years. They had two sons, BG (Ret) USA Jeffrey Elmer Ireland and EXp Realtor Christopher Alan Ireland. Elmer was employed by Northwest Orient Airlines, later Delta Airlines, for 43 impressive years retiring from the Missoula airport in 2000. In 1978, Northwest Airlines transferred Elmer to Missoula. Elmer loved the outdoors and was an expert hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed vegetable gardening and spending time with his parents at their house in Huson.
Elmer is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Angie Ireland.
Survivors include his wife Shirley Ireland of Missoula, sons, Jeff Ireland of Helena and Chris (Billie) Ireland of Lolo, three grandsons, Greg Ireland, Matt Ireland and Cameron Ireland, two granddaughters Lauren (Dan) Nault, Charissa (Vasiliy) Lemeza, three great granddaughters Charley Lemeza, Walker Lemeza, and Delilah Ginger Marie Stewart-Ireland, and one great grandson Ashton Ireland.
The family will have a memorial service for Elmer at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 19, 2022 at Garden City Funeral Home with a reception to follow. His ashes will be entombed in a crypt at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Missoula, MT directly below his parents at a later date.
