Elizabeth L. "Betty" Ogle was born Aug. 20, 1918, in Livingston to Edna Mae (Bartlett) and Alfred Russell Parker. She died peacefully at home on Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013, at the age of 95.
Betty was raised in Livingston, where she went through her early school years. She then attended the University of Montana in Missoula, graduating in education. While attending the university she joined the Beta Sigma Chi sorority, in which she was active for the rest of her life.
On Sept. 6, 1941, she married Edwin F. "Ed" Ogle and moved to Missoula. After Ed was inducted into the Army during World War II, Betty and Edna bought and remodeled the family home on South Fifth Street in 1943. She and the family lived here for the remainder of her life.
Betty and Ed raised four children, Lynn and wife Bonny, Gary and wife Darla, Nancy and husband John North, and Jan and wife Terry. All of her children have grandchildren.
Betty and Ed loved to dance and to travel. They were experienced world travelers and often said that while traveling, they never knew where they might be at the end of the day.
There are some 40 other young people and friends who were in and out of her home throughout the years. Betty never knew who might be on her couch in the morning. She would get up in the morning and count heads, making sure she knew who was there at the start of breakfast. Betty was always willing to listen to the problems of her family and the many extra kids. Advice was not always what they wanted to hear, but they got it anyway. She was very special to those who knew her, and they always remembered to visit when they passed her way.
The family will have a private service and ask that any donation be made to Hospice of Missoula, in lieu of flowers
