Elizabeth Ann Burns, 88, of Missoula, passed away on January 23, 2014 peacefully in her sleep.
Elizabeth was born on February 7, 1925 in her parent's car near Dillion, MT. She grew up on a farm in Whitehall, MT with her parents Eric and Ida Klockare, her brother Bertil and sister Olive. As a young girl she loved tap dancing and twirling a baton. Later in life, she wrote beautiful poetry and was a member of the Christian Women's Club.
Elizabeth graduated from Whitehall High School with the Class of 1942. Soon after, she married Emmett J. Burns in 1943 and moved to Great Falls where her husband was an aviation inspector and they had their first daughter. They had their second daughter in Garrison and then moved to Deerlodge, where she helped run the gas station/motel until they had their son.
In 1957, they moved their family to Missoula and bought the City Center Motel on 338 E. Broadway, which was easily recognized by the neon sleeping bear sign. They ran the motel for 40 years. Elizabeth enjoyed the motel business and all the customers they served over the years. Elizabeth sold the motel in 1997 after Emmett passed. She lived in an apartment that she loved and she was always there for her family when they needed her.
Elizabeth was a wonderful wife, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is survived by Judy (Bill) Andrews of Stevensville, Linda (Jim) Ault of Missoula, Jim (Mary) of Midland, TX along with six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Visitation will be at Garden City Funeral Home 1705 W. Broadway Missoula, MT 59808 on Thursday January 30, from noon to 2:00 pm, the funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm.
