Obituary for Eleanor McCuen Turunen

MISSOULA - Eleanor “Ellie” McCuen Turunen, 87, of Missoula, died peacefully at the Village Health Care Center, Monday, December. 29, 2008.





She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, William “Bill” A. Turunen; dear grandson, Matt Leslie; parents, Charles L. and Adele McCuen; and brothers, Charles, Marshall and Newell.





She is survived by her daughters, Lisa Leslie (Rick Stilson) of Clay, Mich., Cindy (Chris) Goodman and Julie Turunen (Walter Grant) of Missoula; grandchildren, Allison Goodman, Morgan and Riley Grant of Missoula; and nieces and nephews.





Ellie and Bill lived in Bloomfield Village, Mich., for 36 years before moving to The Boulders in Carefree, Ariz. Ellie has been a resident of the Village Senior Residence in Missoula since 2001, where she found great love and support. Ellie enjoyed being a housewife and mother and kept herself very active. Ellie enjoyed life, she loved golf, needlepoint, word searches, cooking and collecting cookbooks, massages and pedicures at Sorella’s Spa, shopping, dining out, e-mailing her Internet friends, and spending time with her friends and family.





She was a member of the Missoula Country Club and Pere Marquette Rod and Gun Club. At various stages of her life, she had belonged to The Village Women’s Club, Pine Lake Country Club, Birmingham Athletic Club, Orchard Lake Country Club in Michigan and The Boulders Club in Arizona. Besides her family, she leaves behind many friends and acquaintances who appreciated her generosity, laughs and friendly nature. She truly treasured her Missoula friends who loved and cared for her. She will truly be missed.





Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January. 3, at the Garden City Funeral Home, with a reception to follow. She will be interred next to her husband, Bill, at the Memorial Garden at the Desert Hills Presbyterian Church in Carefree, Ariz.





Donations may be made in her memory to Youth Homes or the Missoula Food Bank.
