Eileen Halvorson of Missoula passed away surrounded by all of her family on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2015, at Community Medical Center. She was born in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Sept. 21, 1931, to Gus and Alice Hobbs.
Eileen met the love of her life, Torval, while working at the Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service office in Shelby. They were married Feb. 3, 1952, in Shelby. They spent the majority of their life together on a farm near Kevin, where she worked at the post office for 15 years. She was active in American Legion Auxiliary and the Lutheran church. She served on the Sunburst School Board and was a "sports mom."
She was an avid reader. After moving to Missoula, she volunteered to listen to children read at Target Range School. She was also very knowledgeable in current events and politics and served as an elections officer in Kevin and Missoula.
Eileen loved her family and was proud of all their accomplishments. Her husband Torval, her children and grandchildren were with her as she passed away to the sound of their songs and prayers. She is survived by her husband, Torval; brother, Philip Gaudet; children, Bonnie (Tom) Barger, Doug Halvorson, Carla (Lyle) Mitchell, Mark (Marcy) Halvorson and Jay (Amber) Halvorson; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Eileen was preceded in death by her parents, Alice and Gus; two sisters, Bonnie Dyrdahl and Shirley Hoffman; and her grandson, Bodie. At her request, a memorial service will be held at a later date.
The family wants to thank Dr. Gerstle, RN Janet and the wonderful Community Medical Center physicians and staff for their competent, compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to North Toole County Education Fund at Sunburst or a charity of your choice. Messages of condolence for Eileen may be left at missoulafuneralhomes.com.
