Edward James Pribyl, Jr. (Jim/Ed) was born February 27, 1949, in Omaha, Nebraska and was called home on May 14, 2018, in Missoula, Montana. As the second oldest of 11 children, he was a family man from the get-go.
He was a Navy War Veteran who served active duty in Vietnam. Following his return home from duty, he met and married the love of his life, Connie Bennett in 1973. Jim and Connie welcomed their first daughter Amy in Omaha, and in 1979 moved to Missoula, Montana for “one year”. Two years later they welcomed their daughter Tara and four years after that, their son EJ. During their 39 years in Montana, the Pribyl family firmly grew roots and extended their family through their parish community as well as other cherished friendships in Montana.
Jim/Ed worked in HVAC for his entire career, retiring from Temp Right Service in 2017. He loved spending time with his family, especially with his pride and joy, his grandson Isaac. He will be remembered for his quick wit, love of food, travel adventures, jokes (rarely appropriate), boating, camping, kicking back a cold one, hunting, fishing, and spending time in the Montana outdoors. He was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus, and his Catholic faith community.
Jim/Ed was preceded in death by his parents Ed and Genevieve Pribyl, Connie’s parents Joe and Louise Bennett. He was also greeted in Heaven by his sister Janet Fitzpatrick, brother-in-laws Tom Polk, Jeff Knag, and Scott Six and his Montana family members Drew and Sue DePuydt and Bill Gemar.
He is survived by his wife Connie, children, Amy, Tara (Greg) Halls, and EJ; and his grandson Isaac. He is also survived by his four brothers and five sisters, the Halls/Robinson families, along with a large extended family, and adopted Montana family.
The Vigil Prayer service will be held at Blessed Trinity on Tuesday, May 22 at 7pm with the family receiving guests beginning at 5pm. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 23 at 10am, St. Anthony Parish with a reception followed by internment at the Western Montana State Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
The family would like to express their gratitude for to the first responders and Community Medical Center staff who provided amazing assistance. Condolences for the family may be left at gardencityfh.com.
