Edward Dennis Kern

Edward Dennis Kern was preceded in death by his father, Edward F. Kern; and his mother, Rose M. Kern. Edward passed on the evening of Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014. He died of a long-term illness.

Ed was born Aug. 30, 1947, in Pueblo, Colorado, to Edward F. Kern and Rose M. Kern. As a young boy, his family moved to Missoula. He attended grade school at Roosevelt and high school at Missoula County High School.

Upon leaving high school, he joined the Marine Corps and spent a year of duty in Vietnam. After completing four years of service with the Marine Corps, he received an honorable relase and returned to Missoula. He helped in his father's business, Kern's Cleaning Service. He spent several years trying to find his place in the world. He spent time in Yakima, Washington; Seattle; and Albuquerque, New Mexico, before returning to live in Missoula. He enjoyed giving to the community.

Survivors include sons, Frank Kern and wife Kim of Watertown, South Dakota, and Mike Mann of Hamilton; and daughter, Janel Uribe and husband Mike of Tucson, Arizona; sisters Kathy Conners, Sandy Meyer and husband Dennis, Renee Smith and husband Tom, and Vickie Wischmann; and Ed's five grandchildren.

A service will be held at the Western Montana State Veterans Cemetery at noon Thursday, Aug. 14. Officiating will be Dan Dixon. There will be no public reception.
