Edward Adolph Dinges passed away on September 14, 2022 in Missoula, Montana surrounded by family. He was born on September 9, 1939 in Lincoln, Nebraska to Adolph and Martha Smith Dinges He entered the military (Air Force and Navy) in 1957 after high school and served his country until 1983. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam (1967-69), earning two purple hearts and the silver medal. On June 30, 1961, Ed married Margaret Johnston. They celebrated 61 years of marriage this year. From that marriage was born two boys, David and Walter Dinges.
Ed moved to Missoula with his family after he retired from the Navy Seabees in 1983. He worked in the City of Missoula engineering department until he retired in 2003. In his later years he learned to carve wood and became quite good at it, winning numerous ribbons at competitions. Through that skill, he made many long-lasting friendships with other Missoula carvers.
Ed loved his family and friends and proved it every day of his life through his wonderful, giving spirit. He could be ornery and mischievous too, but that’s what made him so special and loved by many.
Ed leaves behind his loving wife, Midge; sons David (Aida) of Junction City, KS and Walt (Dave) of Missoula MT; Sisters Phyllis (Dick) Bradsby of Loveland, CO, Janet (Ed) Donahue of Missoula, MT, June (Kurt) Grummert of Lincoln, NE; and brothers Jim (Kim) Dinges of Denver, CO, Adoph (Brenda) Dinges of Lincoln, NE; and one aunt, Anna Thomas of Rothville, MO. Also grieving his loss are numerous nieces and nephews.
The family suggests memorials to a charity of your choice. A private family gathering will be held, and interment will be at the Missoula City Cemetery.
