On Saturday the 23rd of April only 6 days after turning 96 years we lost our beloved mother. All of our lives were enriched and guided by her. Edna was able to stay in her home with the care of her children, especially Melvin, her son who moved in and lived with her for the last five years. She was born April 17, 1920 in Huson, the daughter of Adlard and Leandra Lanoue.
Edna graduated from Frenchtown High School where she lettered in girls' basketball.
Mom met Dad when he was working at the CC camp at Six Mile. They fell in love and the rest is history- 8 children, 24 Grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren later and 69 years of marriage.
Edna was a member of the Altar Society and Saint Francis Xavier Church. When mom was no longer able to attend Mass, her niece Francis and her husband Bob faithfully brought her communion every Sunday.
She was a great cook. Her sourdough pancakes and cinnamon rolls could never be matched. One of her greatest joys was to have her whole family together. She was an avid Atlanta Braves and Montana Grizzly fan. On game days she would put on her Griz attire and cheer on her team with Mel.
She was the world's greatest Mom to her eight children and many people who called her Mom. Her children are still amazed at how she raised all of them without having a driver's license. She will be missed by all who were fortunate to have known her.
She is preceded in death by her husband Iver Rostad, son Ray Rostad and granddaughter Julie Rostad. These losses were hard on Mom but she was a strong person.
Survivors include her daughter-in-law Gloria Olson Rostad; son, Richard (& Diana) Rostad; daughter, Sharon (Jerry) Sammons; daughter, Judy (Rick) Gendrow; son, Melvin Rostad; daughter Marsha (Gerald) Michaud; daughter, Brenda (Mike) Hubbard and daughter Debbie (Jim) Van Dam; 24 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; sister, Blanche Wheeler; sister-in-law, Ursula Rostad of Sacramento and a very special couple, John and niece Dolores Pozder as well as many very precious nieces and nephews.
We would all like to thank George for being there for mom and all of us at her passing, and all her other Partner's Hospice care-givers.
A Vigil/Rosary service will be held at Garden City Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at 7pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church on Thursday, April 28, at 10:30am followed by a reception downstairs in the church in Reidy Hall. Burial will follow at Old St. Mary's Cemetery. Her Granddaughters will serve as pallbearers.
Because Edna so loved the Christmas season, the family would invite her many loving family and friends to light an extra Christmas Light in her memory. Condolences for the family may be left at www.missoulafuneralhomes.com
