Obituary for Edna Evelyn Evankovich

MISSOULA — Edna Evelyn Evankovich passed away at the Bee Hive Assisted Living Home in Missoula on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013.

She was born Jan. 8, 1920, in Butte, to John and Ellen (Gustafson) Bergstrom. Edna graduated from Butte High School in 1939 and worked in the high school's office until her marriage.

She married Pete Evankovich on July 4, 1941, in Butte. They raised their family in Butte and were members of Sacred Heart and then St. Ann parishes until they retired to Santa Maria, Calif.

Pete passed away in 1999. Edna then moved to Missoula and resided at Grizzly Peak until the fall of 2006 when she moved to the Bee Hive Assisted Living Ponderosa Home.

Edna is survived by her children, Larry Evankovich and his fiancee Darlene Harger of San Jose, Calif., Gayle (Gary) Hayes of Victor and Patti (Brian) Ochab of Burbank, Calif. She also is survived by grandchildren, Brian Evankovich in California and Laura Evankovich in Oregon. In addition, she is survived by brother-in-law, Mitch Evankovich of Anaconda; sisters-in-law, Joyce Evankovich of Anchorage, Alaska, and Carol Evankovich of Burien, Wash.; and by numerous nieces and nephews. Edna was predeceased by her parents; a sister, Ruth Suydam Prenevost; and sisters-in-law, Helen, Margaret and Kathleen Evankovich, and Mary Sullivan.

Inurnment will take place in Butte. At her request, no services are planned.

The family thanks Sarah Jones and her staff at the Ponderosa Home, Erin Heitzmann, administrator of the Bee Hive Homes, and the Hospice team at Partners in Home Care for their compassionate care.

Cremation is under the care of Garden City Funeral Home & Crematory. Condolences and memories may be left for the family at missoulafuneralhomes.com.
