GOLDEN, Colo. - Edith Warren Enger, 91, went to join her Lord and her late husband on January. 1, 2009, at Collier Hospice in Wheat Ridge, Colo.
Edith was born Feb. 12, 1917, to Elmer and Rose Scrivner Warren in Stanley, N.D. Their family moved to White Sulphur Springs following the mid-’30s Dust Bowl years. When her father died, the family scattered and Edith met and married Harold Enger in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, in 1937. His family had also moved from Stanley during the Dust Bowl years. Their marriage would last 62 years until Harold’s passing in 1999.
Harold’s parents gave them land on which to build a one-room cabin at Deep Creek. Harold found part-time jobs and Edith did the day-time farm chores. In 1944, they moved to town with their four children so they could attend school. When Harold joined the Navy and spent the rest of the war on Okinawa, Edith was left with four children ages 1-7 and a farm to man-age on her own.
In 1952, Harold found his permanent position with the Forest Service in Missoula. Upon his retirement, the two spent probably the happiest years of their lives, living in Missoula during the summers and Needles, Calif., during the winters.
Edith will be remembered by friends and family as a kind, gentle, loving person who never raised her voice in anger or spoke ill of others. She worried for and loved every son, daughter, grandchild, great-grandchild and member of her extended family of in-laws. They loved her back.
Edith was preceded in death by son her Alvin in 1984, husband Harold in 1999 and daughter Wanita in 2000.
She is survived by daughter Jeanine Brownell of Golden; son Darl Enger of Missoula; grandchildren Mike Enger of Grants Pass, Ore., Michelle Snobar of Seeley Lake, Kimy Rodgers, Cory Brownell and Eric Brownell of Lakewood, Colo., Chris Brownell of Idaho Springs, Colo., Brandy Rodgers of Missoula, Skip Harold Enger of Ronan and Shawnita Zimmer of Creswell, Ore.; and 13 beloved great-grandchildren.
A graveside burial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January. 23, at Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Missoula with the Rev. Tom Lemmons officiating. A reception will follow.
