Douglas G. Shoup, 68, of Missoula, passed away on Sunday, August 29th, 2021, at St. Patrick Hospital due to a recent illness.
Doug was born on April 29th, 1953, in Billings, to Richard and Marjorie Shoup. He graduated from Sentinel High School and furthered his education at the University of Montana. After college, Doug worked on his father’s mayoral and congressional campaigns, he then went on to work at Champion in East Missoula. At the time of his passing, he took great pride in his work and team at WeConnect MT. Doug had two children from a previous marriage. He met the love of his life, Bridget, in 1990 and was remarried. This brought two wonderful families, the Shoups and McLavertys, together. Doug was a wonderful family man, participating in his kids’ activities, coaching Little League, taking man trips with his brothers-in-law, traveling to the Oregon seashore, and having adventures on Flathead Lake.
Doug thoroughly enjoyed the 70’s, he was passionate about music, cars, Aber Day keggers, and spending quality time with friends throughout Montana. Over the years he rescued and raised many dogs, providing them with a warm and loving home. He loved Montana and the outdoors, spending time on Flathead Lake, hunting, fishing, cooking, attending Grizzly football games, and traveling to Hawaii and the East Coast to visit family.
Doug was a compassionate and caring person, great friend, loving father and grandfather, and lit up every room he walked in to. He was the type of person that made friends everywhere he went. Best known for his sense of humor and ability to connect with others, he was never afraid to make a new friend anywhere, and very much valued the ones that he had. Doug always put others before himself and would give the shirt off his back to anyone that needed it. He adored his grandchildren and took great pride in his role as Papa. Doug was a beacon of light for all of his family members and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Bridget, Missoula; daughters Kaylea (Mike) Gunter, Missoula and
Jessica (Ben) Jahn, Bozeman; sons Kyle (Claudia) Shoup, McAllen, TX, and Ryan (Kori) Hellman, Denver, CO; two sisters, Kathy Shoup, Little Silver, NJ and Julie Shoup, St. Petersburg, FL; 7 grandchildren, Jett, Kalvin, Elouise, Bennett, Ari, Isla, and Vincent; nieces and nephews, Dani, Lauren, Katharine, Joe, Christina, and many loved ones in the McLaverty family.
We would love to acknowledge Doug’s work family at WeConnect MT, including Kevin Haggart, Hodd, Al, Bryan, Kyle, Trystan, Derrick, Dylan and many others who Doug connected with throughout his career. We want to thank them for their love and compassion during this time. Doug’s family is very appreciative of the support and love of Doug’s many friends and neighbors he’s had throughout his life.
Doug and Bridget are both extremely compassionate regarding the rescue and care of animals in need. In lieu of flowers, Doug would love if you would do an unexpected and unsolicited act of kindness for an animal. Any donations can be made to AniMeals in Doug’s name. A private family celebration will be held in the future.
Doug you’re the man!!
