e Riverside Health Care Center. Death was of natural causes.
She was born in Kearney, Neb., on Sept. 11, 1919, to Grace and Edwin Dice. She and older sister Margaret were raised on the farm and attended a one-room country school. After high school, Dorothy earned a teaching certificate and "a school of her own" where she taught all grades.
Dorothy met Everett Rupert while he was in the Army Air Corps, stationed in Kearney. They were married Oct. 6, 1943. Their son Ken was born the following year.
After the war, the couple moved to California, where "Ev" worked as a mechanic, eventually owning his own transmission shop, and Dorothy worked in the school system cafeterias. In the early '70s, they sold the shop and retired to Las Vegas, where Dorothy worked as a cafeteria supervisor.
Dorothy enjoyed handcrafts such as quilling, string art, scrapbooking, and all sorts of card and board games where she was a fierce competitor. She and Everett were also very active in the Nazarene Church.
After Everett's death in 1999, Dorothy moved to Missoula to be near her son and his family. She enjoyed living at the Clark Fork Riverside, and liked walking along the river and going to the farmers market.
Dorothy's sweet and loving ways endeared her to people of many walks of life, who helped her along her way in later years. Her family wishes to thank all who touched her life with kindness.
She is survived by her son, Ken, his wife, Deb, granddaughter, Hollie Gauthier, and husband, Mitch, and beloved great-granddaughter, Gillian, all of Missoula; and many loving nieces, nephews and their families.
At her wish, Dorothy's remains have been cremated. No public services are planned. The family suggests that any memorials be sent to her favorite charity, Disabled American Veterans, Cincinnati, OH 45250, or to the VFW.
