Dorothy Adeline (Rosenbaum) Puckett died on November 28, 2013 on Thanksgiving Day.
She was 101 years old and living at the Hillside Manor in Missoula Montana. Dorothy was
born on September 4, 1912. She was the fifth child of William A. and May A. (Hamm)
Rosenbaum. She was born in Pratt County, Kansas. Dorothy became a Christian at an
early age. She attended the Church of Christ with her parents. She was a faithful member
from her childhood until her death.
Dorothy worked for families in and around Pratt as a housekeeper when babies were born.
She was able to prepare food and do all of the household duties while the mother recovered
from childbirth. She was doing this kind of work when she met her future husband in
Cullison, Kansas. They had dated one week when Forrest asked her to marry him. She
told him if he would wait one year she would marry him. He did wait and on September 13,
1939, Dorothy married Forrest William Puckett. The couple lived on a farm in Pratt
County where Forrest farmed and raised livestock. On August 9, 1943, Forrest and
Dorothy and their two oldest moved to a farm south of Lakin, Kansas. There they lived and
had two more children. They raised dry land wheat and cattle. The Kearny County
Airport was on their property and they managed the grounds of that facility.
Forrest and Dorothy were active members in many areas of farm life. Dorothy was a part
of a group of ladies who sewed, painted and made many home decorations. Dorothy and
Forrest were instrumental in beginning the work of the local Church of Christ in Lakin,
Kansas. Dorothy was an avid gardener. Her yard was one to enjoy during the spring
and summer months in western Kansas. Dorothy loved her flowers.
In November of 1990 due to Forrest's poor health the couple moved to a retirement center
in Edmond. They resided there until Forrest's death in 1994. Dorothy remained there
until February, 1997 when she moved to Missoula, Montana to live with her daughter
Karen Harlan.
Dorothy was a giver of anything she had. She was always willing to help. She gave her
time and money to many good causes. She never met a stranger. She was a good
seamstress. She made many clothes for her daughters and grandchildren. She made hand
quilted quilts. Every grandchild received a quilt made entirely from Dorothy's own hands.
Dorothy was always willing to help people learn how to quilt and taught several after she
moved to Missoula. Dorothy was able to see what people needed. She could smile and make
The world a better place for anyone she met. She was a wife for over fifty-five years. She was
