Obituary for Dorothy Aleene Novotny Ericksen (Pennington)

Dorothy Ericksen, 91, of Missoula, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2014, at home of natural causes.

Dorothy was born on March 10, 1923, in Twisp, Washington, to John and Minnie Pennington. As a young girl she lived with her family on their dairy farm in Winthrop, Washington, where she attended grade school. She graduated as salutatorian from high school in Twisp in 1941.

In 1942 she married George Novotny in Wenatchee, Washington. They had four daughters, Nancy, Linda, Peggy and Sally, and the family lived in Twisp and Deer Park, Washington, Bates, Oregon, and moved to Missoula in 1956.

In Missoula she attended LPN school and worked at Community Hospital.

George Novotny died in 1985, and Dorothy's later nursing career continued in Tacoma and Chehalis, Washington. After retirement, she married Cecil Ericksen in 1988. The couple resided in Buckley, Washington, until Cecil's passing in 1994.

Dorothy returned to Missoula for life, residing for 10 years at Katoonai Lodges, and for the duration of her life at Missoula Manor.

Dorothy's life was devoted to her daughters, grandchildren and Jesus. She was a member of Christian Life Center.

Survivors include her sister, Nilagene Bracken; four daughters, Nancy, Linda (Guy), Peggy and Sally (Paul); also Sue (Duane) Whittle, and all who called her Grandma: Erica, Sarah, JD (Kirsten), Alexa (Tyler), David (Sarah), Lisa (Dan), Heidi (Derek), Mark, Kyle, Cody, Karly (Andrew), Dominic, Kayla, Marquis, Alivia, Cameron, Ella, David, Andrew and Lauren.

Remembering also her deceased sister, Florabelle and son-in-law JD Richardson.

Visitation will be at Christian Life Center on Monday, Nov. 24, at 1 p.m. with Pastor David Phillips officiating. Pastor Steve Flateau will contribute in song.

It is requested that in lieu of flowers or cards that contributions be made in Dorothy's name to Missoula Manor Endowment Fund, 909 W. Central Missoula, MT 59801.
