Dorothy Mae Berwald Babcock, 93, of Missoula, passed away at her home on Wednesday, March 9, 2016. She was born in Superior, Wisconsin, on May 28, 1922, the third child of Bill and Marie Berwald. Early on, she was preceded in death by her oldest brother Bill who was adopted and passed away at 17 months. Later came Betty, Pat and Robert and finally Gladys, who died at birth.
The family lived through many challenging times including the death of Dorothy's mother, the Depression and World War II.
Dorothy loved school and graduated from Central High School before starting Superior State Teacher's College. She married the love of her life, Lyle N. Babcock in Seattle on March 6, 1942. They enjoyed 64 years together.
Dorothy is also preceded in death by her parents; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Al Johnson; two brothers; two sisters and other aunts, uncles and family members. Her family includes three children, Ellen and Ron Bourgeau, Nathan Kelly and Susan Babcock and Gayle and Dwain Stacken; 19 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
"It is my request that their be no formal service; I would rather you build a campfire, enjoy some music and sing my favorite hymns and Girl Scout songs-thanks again to the many dear Girl Scout friends and volunteers who made Girl Scouts so meaningful and successful for 45 years; these precious memories, along with times with my family; What more can you ask? And now, Heaven with my Savior!"
