Doris J. Lyon, 87, of Missoula, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016, of natural causes. She was born on Nov. 12, 1928, in Ponca City, Oklahoma, to David and Jocie (Taylor) Cornman.
She married Walter "Skeet" Lyon on Sept. 14, 1952, in Flagler, Colorado. She later graduated in 1960 with a degree in education from Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas. Doris taught elementary school in Goodland, Kansas. She also taught in a one room school house in Sherman County, Kansas, and Smith County, Kansas.
Doris was a devote Christian and a member of the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ, in Goodland. She was also a member of Martha's Sewing Ministry of Missoula, made jewelry, and attended many craft shows.
She was also in the Inches-A-Weigh commercials several times and was even interviewed by KPAX CH8 about it.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Bill Cornman.
She is survived by her husband, Walter "Skeet" Lyon; her son, Charles Lyon; three nieces, Evelyn Solheim, Judy Fuller, and Rhonda Davis, as well as many other great-nieces and nephews.
There will be a private service held at a later date. Arrangements have been under the care of Cremation and Burial Society of the Rockies.
