Donna Marie Karr, 78, of Missoula, passed away on Monday, February 10 at St. Patrick
Hospital.
She was born on March 2, 1936 to Aafje and Herbert Demmons in Missoula, Montana. She grew up in Piltzville and attended Bonner Elementary School where her mother, Aafje, was later the secretary for many years. Her father worked as a river foreman at the Bonner Mill. Donna graduated from Missoula County High School in 1954.
After High School, she worked at Western Montana Bank and Missoula Blueprint Company. She was also enrolled at the University of Montana for two years and joined the Order of Eastern Star Sorority. On New Year's Eve, 1957, she met Percy Fay Karr on a blind date. They married at the First United Methodist Church on May 24, 1958. Percy and Donna lived in Missoula until 1970, when they moved to Florence to raise their family. While in Florence, she was very active in the school and community. She enjoyed attending her children's school events. She had many great friends in Florence, whom she and Percy enjoyed spending time with.
They moved back to Missoula in 1982, and retired to Trout Creek in 1998. There, she and Percy met many new friends and neighbors. She loved the time spent with friends and family there, and having a beer at the Naughty Pine. She spent many days floating in the lake with her grandchildren or going out on the boat with Percy. In 2006, they moved back to Missoula. Percy and Donna enjoyed babysitting their grandchildren and being the heart of family events throughout their years. Donna was a great organizer of holidays and summer pool parties that her children and grandchildren always attended and enjoyed. She always kept up to date with her grandchildren's high school sports careers, frequenting basketball and football games in Stevensville and Conrad. (She was sure to keep the referees on their toes.) She loved reading mystery and crime novels, and growing tomatoes and flowers in the summertime. She often spent time sewing clothes for her children and grandchildren when they were younger. She loved to make doll clothes and Christmas stockings for her family. She and Percy felt lucky to have taken trips to Guadeloupe, Celebra, and Pompano Beach where she enjoyed the beautiful beaches and sunsets.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Aafje and Herbert, step-son Pete Karr and grandson Michael Karr. Survivors include her husband of almost 57 years, Percy; brothers Bill Demmons, Green Valley, Ariz. and Jack Demmons, Missoula; children Scott (Jennie) Karr, Missoula, Teri Schultz, Stevensville and Sande (Ken) Larson, Conrad; grandchildren Jesse, Cody, Nathan, Jeremy (Lindsey), Josh, Jared, Seaborn, Sam, Shane and Kale; and 13 great-grandchildren. Special family includes Karla (Alan) Kind, Jamie, Tara, Kristi, Cori Hoffman, Kari (Dave), Caryl, Diane Johnson, Devin (Angie) and Dani, Bridget, Shelby, Sheridan, and Kevin Schultz. Donna loved her family with all her heart and soul, and they loved her so much in return. She will be missed everyday by so many, but we were so blessed to have her in our lives.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, February 16 at Garden City Funeral Home
