– Donna Genevieve Tubbs Huguet, 84, a lifelong Missoula resident, died peacefully in her home, on Wednesday, December 3rd, surrounded by her loving family. She (along with twin sister Dolores) was born January 3, 1930, to Clarence and Marguerite (Malloy) Tubbs.
Donna graduated from Missoula County High School (now Hellgate High), in 1947 and attended the University of Montana for one year before being hired as a secretary for John Toole Insurance Agency and then for the U.S. Forest Service (USFS). She married the love of her life, Claude Huguet, in 1951 at St. Anthony's Church and together they started a family, which eventually grew to six boys and three girls.
Donna continued working at the Forest Service until the birth of her 4th child, then devoting all of her time, attention and care to her growing family. She also served as a member of the St. Anthony's Altar Society. As a mother she was a natural, making sure her brood was happy and healthy. When the youngest of the family was safely off to school, Donna returned to work at the USFS, retiring in 1992 after 22 years of service. Meantime, she and Claude were fixtures on the bleachers at Rattlesnake School and Hellgate H. S. cheering on their boys and then youngest girl as they exceled in sports.
Donna and Claude shared 63 and a half wonderful years of marriage, raising their nine children and then welcoming the next generation (19 grandchildren) and the next (7 great grandchildren). Donna loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, delighting in hosting birthday parties and special holiday celebrations for the entire clan. She remained close to her beloved siblings and their families (the Trempers, Tubbs' and Fabatz's), all of whom have fond memories of time spent together at the cabin on Flathead Lake's Little Safety Bay, 4th of July Reunions at Columbia Gardens in Butte, and rides in the historic tour boats at Helena's Gates of the Mountains.
Donna will always be remembered for her kind heart, gentle spirit, giving nature and sunny disposition. She cherished her friends in the "Birthday Club": Dolores Tremper, Molly Caplis, DeLoris Engen, Phoebe Johnson, Justine McMenus and Carlene Johnson, as well as, her network of fellow neighborhood Moms, raising their Baby Boomer kids in the Rattlesnake Valley throughout the '50s, '60s and '70s.
