On May 28, 2018, Donald W. Johnson passed away at the age of 96 due to heart failure and pneumonia, at St. Patrick Hospital of Missoula.
He was born September 20, 1921 in Wilmar Minnesota, to Sam Johnson and Grace Graham. Donald proudly served our country in the U.S. Army Air Forces, where he fought in WWII through 1945 as well as the Korean War through 1952.
While being a man devoted to God and a lover of Israel, Donald worked as a Station Manager for the U.S. Post Office for 30 years. He was also a skilled handyman who enjoyed tools and had a wonderful sense of humor as well as wit. In his spare time he used his craftsmanship to build solid homes. Donald was a man who loved his family and neighbors dearly and helped anyone he could.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Rue Kathleen Johnson, who passed away July 8, 2015. The loved they shared for one another was profound, and the two were inseparable. Also preceding him in death is his sister Dorothy Utter and brother Bob Johnson.
Survivors include his children; Sherron (Joe) Mehne, Rocky (Gina) Johnson, Diane Palmer, Sam Johnson, Penny (Robert) Young, Sheree (Scott) Bombard, along with 7 grandchildren; Amanda Johnson, Dylan Johnson, Shane Johnson, Michael Mehne, Joshua and Autum Rhoades, Brandon and Kimmy Bombard, Ryan and Laurie Le Duc- Bombard as well as 8 great-grandchildren; Natalie and Hannah Rhoades, Noah Bombard, Logan Bombard, Benjamin Bombard, Alexia Fretwell, Liam and Aiden Le Duc- Bombard.
A private visitation will be held June 1, 2018. Graveside services will be held on June 4, 2018, at 3:00 p.m. at the Western Montana State Veteran Cemetery, 1911 Tower St. Missoula, Montana with Pastor Tom Lemmons of Lighthouse Baptist Church officiating. Pallbearers include: Rocky Johnson, Sam Johnson, Scott Bombard, Brandon Bombard, Pastor Tom Lemmons, and Pastor Chuck Keller.
