It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donald Lee Henderson Sr., who left us on April 14, 2025, at the age of 91. Born on September 15, 1933, in Monticello, Arkansas, Don lived a life filled with adventure, love, and a spirit that warmed the hearts of everyone he met. A proud veteran, Don served in the Navy aboard the USS Rochester CA-124 as a Gunnery for three years. His dedication to his country was just one part of what made him special. On August 29, 1955, he married the love of his life, Betty Jane Pharris, in California, and together they embarked on a beautiful journey, building their family and creating cherished memories.

Don worked for Only Motors in Missoula as a mechanic before becoming a Pipefitter/Mechanic at Horner Waldorf, after which he retired. Don was known fondly as "Papa," a title he wore with pride. He was a man of simple pleasures—sailing on Flathead or up in Alaska, fishing, camping, and square dancing brought him immense joy. But above all, Don treasured the time spent with his grandkids and great grandkids. His storytelling skills captivated audiences, and his love for musical instruments filled many homes with joy and laughter. Don's humility and kindness left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He had a welcoming spirit that made friends and family feel right at home, no matter the occasion.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Basil Henderson and Pearl (Murray) Henderson, and his son, Donnie Henderson.

Don is survived by his wife, Betty Jane Henderson, two daughters, Sandra (Galen) Kuntz and Reba (Henry) Taylor, as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.

In honor of Don, a graveside service with military honors will be held at Western Montana State Veterans Cemetery on Friday, April 25, 2025, at 12:00 pm. A celebration of life and reception will follow at the Brown Building in Arlee. All are welcome.

As we say goodbye to Don, we remember the many ways he touched our lives with his genuine heart and spirit. He was always humble, always kind, and will always be missed.
