Dirk Chilcote, 93, of Missoula, passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2017, at St. Patrick Hospital of natural causes.
He was born June 20, 1924, in Portland, Oregon, to Preston and Adriana Chilcote. Dirk graduated from Missoula County High School, and then earned a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from Montana State University in 1950. Dirk volunteered as a Marine Corps radioman in the Pacific during World War II and later served in occupied China.
Dirk was assistant county engineer in Valier then worked at Marony Dam near Great Falls for Montana Power. Dirk moved to Seattle and worked for The Boeing Company on the BoMark missile project, the mass transit project in Morgantown, West Virginia, and the Boardman Oregon Agricultural project. Dirk was Project Engineer for Sellen Construction and managed construction for the North Satellite at SeaTac Airport and Red Square at the University of Washington in Seattle. He retired to Missoula in 1974 where he built duplexes with sons Bob and Keith. This final project gave him great satisfaction in his retirement.
He is survived by his brother Larry (Judy) Chilcote of Missoula, his two daughters and two sons, Vicki (Philip) Pankow of Everett, Washington, Robert (Mary) Chilcote of Sacramento, California, Marian Lynn of Kalispell, and Keith (Sarah) Chilcote of Salem, Oregon, nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
On Tuesday, Aug. 8, a family-only celebration of life will be held from 11 a.m. to noon at Dirk Chilcote's home (limited parking), followed by a community gathering held at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church in Missoula from 2 to 4 p.m. Family suggests donations to the charity of your choice.
