Derrick Richard Franchuk
Derrick Franchuk left this world we know on July 17, 2014. His parents, Galen and Tammie Franchuk along with his older sister Kayley Franchuk, welcomed him into their lives on April 6, 1988. He was a treasure from this day forward.
Derrick attended Frenchtown public schools, but his knowledge came from a natural ability to look at things and see them with understanding and figure them out.
Growing up Derrick was blessed with many family members who helped shape his life. He is survived by his parents, Galen and Tammie Franchuk, his sister Kayley Franchuk, Grandmother Delores Franchuk, Grandparents Joe and Gwen Sage, Uncle Brad Sage, Aunts and Uncles Bob and Donna Franchuk , Jim Walters and Jolynn Hoffman, Bill and Sue Bouck, and Girlfriend Tuline Kinaci along with many special cousins, relatives and friends.
Derrick worked for Missoula Parks and Recreation as an assistant maintinence technician, he started in 2007 and was making the City part of his future. Derrick enjoyed his job, he spoke of it often and also about the people he worked with.
Derricks passion for life came through to those around him everyday he was here. He enjoyed Montana to its fullest, often with his cousin Cory Hoffman. He loved hiking, biking, camping, fishing, swimming, wake boarding and snow boarding. He enjoyed music constantly, and took the time to see the natural beauty in the places he went.
Derrick had a unique philosophy about life, he did not fear death. In a recent visit to Maui, Derrick spoke of his wishes to have his ashes spread in a few select places. He was clear that he did not want people to go to these places and mourn, but he wished them the experience of beauty and happiness he felt when he was there.
Derrick left all of us way too soon, but know that when he left, he had never been happier, never more confident and never more content with his life and himself.
He had no trouble expressing his love for his family, and knowing he knew we knew, makes it better.
Please join us for a casual potluck Celebration of Derrick's life in Pineview Park in Missoula on Sunday July 27, 5:30 pm, come as you are, bring a lawn chair, memories and a smile to share, Derrick always did.
