Obituary for Dennis R Elliott

Dennis Richard Elliott, 76, of Evaro, passed away on February 16, 2018 at St. Patrick Hospital.
He was born on September 21, 1941, to Floren and Nellie Elliott in Clear Lake, SD. He grew up and attended school in Clear Lake, graduating from Deuel High School in 1959. Dad was active in sports, playing both basketball and football. He was also an active member of FFA, showing and selling steers.
Dennis joined the United States Air Force on November 11, 1960. After graduating from his training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX, he married his high school sweetheart, Janet Homan, on March 30, 1961 in Clear Lake, SD. After they were married, they were stationed in England and Florida until Dennis was honorably discharged on August 20, 1966.
In the Fall of 1966, Dennis started college at North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND. He graduated with Honors May 29, 1968 with his Associates degree in Machine Shop. While in North Dakota, Dennis and Janet welcomed their son, Richard.
The next big move was to Missoula, MT in 1972. Dad owned a gun shop in Evaro for many years. He and Janet welcomed daughter, Denise, after their move to Evaro. He was employed as a machinist at Van Evans Mill, Ron’s Machine Shop, and then Stone Container until his retirement in 2002.
Dad was an avid hunter, fisherman, and outdoorsman his entire life. He loved his land, trees, and wildlife. He worked hard and cared deeply for his family and friends, always willing to lend a helping hand. He was a volunteer firefighter with Frenchtown District for over 30 years, serving as a Station Captain and Assistant Chief over the years. He gave his time and energy selflessly to help others.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Floren and Nellie Elliott, and his older brother, Lloyd Elliott.
Survivors include his wife, Janet, Evaro; Brother, Dave (Bodae), Watertown, SD; Sister-In-Law, Lorna, Brookings, SD; Son, Richard (Natalie), children (Hailey, Olivia, Andrew) Boise, ID; Daughter, Denise (Patrick), children (Randa, Kandra, Kallie, Michael) Evaro, MT; and many nieces and nephews.
