Obituary for Debra Jean (Lehman) Garrick

Our beloved Debbie passed on Saturday, Aug. 6, 2016, at her home in Missoula.

She was born on Dec. 21, 1959, to Robert and Marguerite Lehman in Missoula. Debbie was the youngest of four sisters growing up with them in Missoula and Clinton. Debbie graduated from Sentinel High School in 1978.

Debbie married Michael K. Garrick on Dec. 6, 1980. They had two children together, Shane and Kristel.

Debbie worked at White Pine with her sister Cheryl, Diamond Mountain Sand and Gravel and Vann’s when she was younger. She then spent years taking care of and loving her children. When Debbie’s children became older, Debbie went into real estate working closely with her sister Janet. Debbie sold her first house in 1998. She finished her working career at Wal-Mart in July of 2016 and was settling into staying home and traveling with her husband.

Debbie was a loving person who cared greatly about her family, spending time with her sisters, nieces and nephews. She spent much time with her in-law family as well, becoming good friends with her husband’s family. She cared greatly for animals, picking up stray dogs and on several occasions bringing small wounded animals into the home. Debbie was a smart, witty person who was sharp as a tack. Her smile shone brightly and spread across rooms.

Debbie spent her free time crafting, creating beautiful quilts, wreaths and ornamental decorations. She greatly enjoyed reading. She spent many summers in the outdoors camping and winters downhill skiing. She was beginning to travel more with her husband, taking yearly vacations to Hawaii.

Debbie was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Marguerite Lehman. She is survived by her husband Michael Garrick; children Shane Garrick (Iowa) and Kristel Garrick; her sisters Janet Rice, Jeanette Ailport, Cheryl Lehman; her nieces and nephews and many cousins.

Debbie’s life will be celebrated on Tuesday, Aug. 16, at 10:30 a.m. with a ceremony and reception at the Holy Spirit Parish Episcopal Church, 130 S. Sixth St. E., Missoula. There will be a memory box if you wish to write your favorite memory or place photos for the family. In lieu of flowers, please love like Debbie and donate to AniMeals (animeals.com).
