David Petersen, "Dangerous Dave" 74, formerly of Frenchtown, passed away in Missoula on November 25th, 2013. David was born on March 20th, 1939 in Newton, UT to Shirley Reese and Vance Petersen. He was the second of eight children; 7 boys and one girl.
He graduated from Utah State University with a B.S. in Political Science and History. He served 2 years in the Peace Corps in Guatemala.
He married Susan Lamb on December 29th, 1967 in Smithfield, UT. They moved to Frenchtown, MT in 1968 where he worked with his Uncle Bob Petersen running a dairy farm. After the cows were sold, he returned to school at the University of Montana earning his teaching endorsement. He worked at Frenchtown Schools for 17 years teaching Spanish and history. During this time he coached and mentored many youth and was always vocal from the stands.
Dave had a constant thirst for knowledge. He was a great historian with a deep love for Native American culture. He amassed a large collection of beadwork from artisans throughout the Northwest and Alaska.
He is survived by his wife of almost 46 years, Susan; daughters DeeAnna (Darrin) Helena; Michelle (Joani) Missoula; son Jeremiah (Katie) Florence; 4 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and his siblings Todd, John, Rosemary, Scott, Jed and Erik. He was preceded in death by his parents and oldest brother Steven.
The Memorial Service will be held Friday November 29th at 1:00 pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Frenchtown with a reception to follow. We invite you to wear your favorite sportswear that represent your team. Sunset Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements.
