David Allen Hakes, 78, of Missoula, passed away on February 12, 2022 at Community Medical Center surrounded by family.
He was born June 19, 1943 in Decatur, Indiana to Harold and June Hakes. At age 16, he joined the Army Rangers, earned his GED, and was stationed in Hawaii and Japan. After the military, he met his wife of 56 years, Voneta. He worked his way up to Regional Director at H&R Block for the next several years before moving with his family to Missoula in September 1971. He attended the University of Montana and became a long time business owner.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ron, and sisters, Connie and Beth Ann. Survivors include his wife, Voneta; son, Kent (Tiffany) Hakes, Denver, CO; daughter, Michelle Hakes, Mililani, HI; sister, Carolyn Hakes Ruble and brother, Tom Hakes of Indiana, 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
He enjoyed playing softball and going deer lookin’. He loved playing the game Aggravation with his grandchildren; Brad (Carla), Andy, Alyssa, Coley, & Chase whenever they visited. He was an avid Numismatist.
