– David J. Asch, 85, of Florence, passed away Sunday, Sept. 21, 2014, at Community Medical Center in Missoula due to a stoke.
David was born March 15, 1929, to Nathan and Elizabeth (Ingwersen) Asch in New Milford, Connecticut. He attended boarding schools from an early age.
On Oct. 3, 1946, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and became a paratrooper. He served in China and the Occupation of Japan, then attended Gettysburg College and was a degree recipient in 1952.
David's career included employment at ESSO, IBM and The Hartford prior to him embracing his true vocation, capital fundraising at Haney Associates.
David was also the grandson of the famous author, Sholem Asch. He was a member of the Missoula Gun Club and shot competition skeet.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Lois (Hunter); his son, Latimer, from a previous marriage; as well as three grandchildren, Ethan, Ellison and Adrian.
David's funeral will be held at Garden City Funeral Home at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1. A graveside service with military honors will follow at the Western Montana State Veterans Cemetery.
