Obituary for Darryl John Mariucci

Darryl John Mariucci, 72, of Potomac, beloved husband, brother, and father, passed away on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at home in the loving care of his wife Kathy and sister Rose.
He was born March 17, 1943 in Pontiac, Michigan to Orcindo and Rose Mariucci. Darryl attended Waterford Township High School and graduated in 1961. After high school, he joined the U.S. Navy and served 1961-1965 aboard the U.S.S. Columbus in the waters of Viet Nam. After an honorable discharge, he was an ironworker in Detroit, MI where he worked on large construction projects including the Renaissance Center and Ford Motor Company.
In 1983, Darryl moved his family from Michigan to Montana after falling in love with the area while on a hunting trip. He was an avid hunter until his recent illness.
Darryl started his own business, Weld Tech, in 1993 and that business thrived until his retirement in 2015.
In 2005, he married Kathryn Follis of Missoula. They enjoyed their new life together and spent time traveling throughout Costa Rica, Kenya, Tanzania, Italy, Greece and Croatia. Darryl loved riding his Goldwing motorcycle and always said, "Riding cleared out the cobwebs." He and Kathy rode with Big Sky Wings and took summer trips extending their travel throughout the US and as far north as Yellowknife, Northwest Territories.
Darryl was especially proud of his 9-year tenure as Fire Chief of the Greenough-Potomac Volunteer Fire Department and his 6-years as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the volunteer fire department.
Darryl is survived by his wife, Kathy Mariucci; 2 daughters, Sherrie Mariucci, Pontiac, MI, and Samantha Smith (Chris), Missoula; one sister, Rose Mariucci, West Palm Beach, FL; 4 grandchildren, a great granddaughter, and 3 nieces. Darryl will be missed by all who knew and loved him dearly.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at the Montana Cancer Center and the dedicated staff and nurses at Partners in Home Care.
A memorial service will be held at Garden City Funeral Home on Thursday, October 1 at 2:00 p.m. On Friday, October 2 there will be military honors and internment of ashes at the Veterans Cemetery on Tower Street in Missoula at 2:00 p.m.
