Obituary for Dante James Martin

Dante James Martin, 17, of Missoula, Montana passed away on Saturday November 15, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Dante's gentle spirit left this world too soon but not without leaving a tremendous impact on all those who knew and loved him. He was a gift from God and will be greatly missed.
Dante, born August 4, 1997 in Missoula, was the firstborn son of Michael J. Martin and Amy Johnsen of Missoula, Montana. As he grew from a boy to a young man he touched the lives of everyone he got to know. He was a nurturer and was particularly good with children, especially his younger cousins. Dante loved his brother Chance and demonstrated that by rough-housing with him and telling him it was his job to make him tougher. He loved him like only a brother could. Dante protected Chance at any expense, making sure no one messed with his brother but him.
Dante had the natural ability to excel at anything he put his mind to. He picked up carpentry quickly while working with his dad. He was also an amazing athlete and whether it was golf, snowboarding, football, wrestling, basketball or bowling, he had the talent to perform like he had been doing it for years. From the years of playing Little Grizzly football to the time he played briefly at Big Sky High, he made an impact on all his teammates. He was full of life and had a heart and desire to put others' needs before his own.
Everyone that knew Dante knew that he was a truly selfless person. He would give the shirt off his back and walk home freezing just to make sure that someone in need was warm. Whether it was someone he'd known for a long time or someone he just met, Dante made sure everyone was cared for.
Dante's willingness to give did not end with his death. Through his death he was able to provide life for others. Dante made the choice to be an organ donor and as a result, the lives of at least 5 people have been forever changed. Most importantly, we find solace in the knowledge that Dante knew the Lord as his savior and is walking with Him now in heaven.
Dante is survived by his Father Michael Martin (Allison), Mother Amy Johnsen (Shawn), Brother Chance Martin, Grandmother Linda Blakney, Grandmother and Grandfather Dana and Dan Johnsen, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
A service celebrating Dante's life will be held on Thursday November 20 at 3:00 at the Christin Life Center located at 3801 S. Russell, Missoula. A reception will follow immediately after the service. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the City Life Center in Missoula or a charity of your choice.
