Daniel John Walsh left this world Friday, Sept. 26, 2014, doing one of the things he loved most in life – riding his motorcycle.
Danny, the only son of John and Shirley Walsh, was born April 16, 1959, in Butte. He attended Butte schools and then joined the U.S. Navy.
His father's guidance and his years in the service solidified his strong work ethic and inspired a lifelong passion for craftsmanship. A sheet metal worker by trade, he was a proud member of the Sheet Metal Workers Local 103. Danny was always there to use his skills to attend to family needs.
Danny focused on passing his craftsmanship, ethics and high standards to his two children. Together the three spent hours working on countless projects. Danny worked hard for everything he owned; he often told his sons, "If you work for something, you'll respect it more."
A single father, he raised his sons from a very young age. His focus in life was his children and nothing made Danny prouder than Daniel and Kaden. He provided for them in all ways. Daniel and Kaden were his life, his joy, his greatest passion and his purpose.
He was a devoted father, faithful son and protective brother. Everyone who knew Danny loved him, and he was a major influence on many lives. To those who had the honor of knowing him, he was a great friend, conversationalist and entertainer; quick-witted with a great sense of humor.
He leaves behind a broken-hearted family: sons, Daniel and Kaden; parents, John and Shirley Walsh; adoring sisters, Kathy Carl and Maureen (Kim Masella) Walsh of Missoula, Theresa Walsh of the Flathead Valley, and Carolyn (Dick) O'Leary and Sherrie (Frank) Joseph of Butte; nephews, Chad and Matthew (Jessi) O'Leary; nieces, McKenzie and Madison Joseph; grandnephew, Declan O'Leary; aunts, Evelyn (Wade Smith) Trudeau, Dorothy (Eli) Thomas and Mary Lou (Bob) Newman; uncle, Tom (Shirley) Walsh; Daniel and Kaden's half-brother, Landon Hudgins, and their aunt, Candace (Ken) Kendrick; and numerous cousins and friends. Also left behind is his beloved companion Max, the border collie.
A private family service has been held. In lieu of flowers, contributions for the benefit of his children, Daniel (16) and Kaden (15), may be made to the Daniel John Walsh Memorial Fund at Missoula Federal Credit Union, 2610 N. Reserve St., Missoula, MT 59808, or at any Missoula Federal Credit Union branch.
