HUSON – Daniel J. "Dan" Trenkle Sr., 77, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at his residence in Huson surrounded by his loving family after a long battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. He was born on Jan. 3, 1936, in Bloomington, Ill., the son of Robert E. and Mary (Martin) Trenkle.
He attended and graduated from Moore High School in Farmer City, Ill. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1955 and served until 1977 when he retired as a chief petty officer. He attended the University of Illinois for two to three years in between his enlistments in the Navy. Following his retirement from the Navy, he worked as a subcontractor for the U.S. Forest Service where he cut posts and poles. He really enjoyed his work in the woods. He later went to work as a custodian at the University of Montana, retiring in 1999. Dan loved being around his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Linda Trenkle, and wife Sally Trenkle and numerous brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his son, Dan Trenkle Jr. and his wife, Sandy; his daughter, Cathy Trenkle and her husband, Paul Haire; two grandsons, Justin and Kaleb Trenkle; his brother David Trenkle and his sister Julie Howard and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services for Dan will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 2, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will follow services at Sunset Memorial Cemetery.
