Thursday, July 30, 2015, the world lost a beacon of light. Daniel Scott Stevens was lost to us after a day of huckleberry picking with his wife and family. We take comfort in knowing that on his last day, he was doing something he loved, with people he loved.
Dan was born Oct. 6, 1965, to John "Jake" and Carol Stevens in Pennsylvania, the middle of three boys. After asthma almost took him at a young age, the family moved to Montana, where they settled in Alberton. Here Dan would find his true passion in life: the outdoors. You name it, he did it. Hunting, water skiing, boating, tubing, 4-wheeling, snowmobiling, jeep racing, horseback riding and his most recent pastime, being on his Harley. If it was fast or slightly dangerous, Dan was in, and he never looked back.
Dan was many things to many people; a son, father, husband, brother and best friend to everyone. He was the most charming, charismatic, sweet and handsome man you'll ever meet. Those blue eyes and wide smile charmed everyone, and his hugs were heart-crushingly perfect. He always held on an extra second before letting go, as if he was trying to permanently leave his mark on a person's soul.
Dan had a knack for finding and spreading love wherever he went, and it's his love that brought his extended family together after his death. Janet Born, Lisa Stevens and his wife, Dawn Stevens, were all by his side, offering comfort, support and strength to each other and his children: Heather "Stevens" Reep (29) (Brandon Reep), Brandon Stevens (13), Chanse Maier (22) (Chelsi Breen) and Rylee Maier (19). His grandchildren are and continue to be the light through which Dan's eyes still shine: Nicholas (8), Kaylee (5) and Bryse (1).
A memorial and potluck will take place at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 7, at the Lolo Community Center in Lolo. Please bring your favorite dish, dress casually and join his family and friends to remember and celebrate Dan's legacy.
