Daniel E. Cook 61, of Missoula, passed away quietly and peacefully at his home on Tuesday, March 8, 2016, surrounded by family and friends after a very short battle with a very aggressive form of cancer.
Dan was born to Wilfred (Bill) and Bernice Cook in Missoula County. He graduated from Hellgate High School in 1972 and shortly after set off for Billings where he successfully owned and operated Cook Heating and Air Conditioning, Inc. for many years. In late 2001, Dan retired and moved to eastern Tennessee to reunite with his high school sweetheart, Kim Smith. The couple returned to the Missoula area shortly after to spend quality time with family and to assist their aging parents. Dan happily spent many hours with his father, Wilfred (Bill Cook), taking long walks, fishing, watching movies and enjoying long talks with each other during the golden years of his father's life, which meant so much to both of them.
Dan was preceded in death by his father, Wilfred (Bill) Cook. He is survived by his life-long love and wife, Kim Smith; his mother, Bernice Cook and by two brothers, Terry and James (Jim) Cook. Jim also has three daughters, Tana Cook Avellar (John), Brandy Cook and son Lox, Kristine Cook Kim (Jason) and their mother Chong (Choy) Cook.
Everyone who truly knew Dan, knew what an incredible heart and compassion he held for all people and animals. Some of his ashes will be spread by his dear friend Mike Chamberlain at Dan's favorite fishing spot in the Huntley area along with ashes of his father and faithful dog Rex.
Dan will be missed dearly and is now in the hands of our lord. Rest in peace Dan, we love you with all our hearts. There will not be a ceremony per Dan's wishes. We ask that any donations be made to either Partners Hospice who gave Dan and Kim incredible support throughout his final days. Or, to the Humane Society of Western Montana to further the cause for the humanity of all animals.
